About us

StaticBox started out in 2004 as a really small and private network made by a couple of friends. Through time more people started getting interested in us so we decided to open up for public.

Since that day, we started expanding. We like to keep our users happy with the latest ircd and services features available to us. After all, users are the most important factor of a good organized IRC network.

DNSBL changes

Per this morning's policy change, we will be shortly migrating from usage of DroneBL to EFNet RBL.  If you have any questions, ask in #staticbox.

Connections from Shellium blocked

We apologize for the inconvenience, but are blocking connections from Shellium and several other public access systems at this time due to abuse problems.  If you would like to use StaticBox, please do so from another system.

services.staticbox.net web interface launched!

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of services.staticbox.net, a web interface to the StaticBox services system.  It is powered by atheme-web, which is fully open-source (despite being developed for this network to use). Try it today, and let us know if there is anything you would like to see added!

StaticBox Webchat launched

StaticBox has launched it's own Web IRC client.  This client is based on the excellent Qwebirc client, and is accessible at webchat.staticbox.net.

Janus Information

As of April 6, we have joined the Janus metanetwork. Note that this is a beta thing at the moment, and we might choose to not offer it in the future depending on how things go. Here's the information on that, contributed by stitch.

irc.staticbox.net.au linked

We now have a server in Brisbane, Australia. It's server name is irc.staticbox.net.au and has no connection restrictions. It is administrated by nenolod and Trystan and runs the latest charybdis 3.1.

Unfortunately, it does not have IPv6 access.

TOR access now available on StaticBox

After a long history of disallowing Tor connections on StaticBox, we are now allowing Tor users to connect via a hidden service: 4oldvxpwu4bw7e25.onion. We hope this will be useful to users in certain countries that have been blocked from being able to access StaticBox.

We're banned by Poland ISPs. 1337.

It has come to our attention that we have been banned in the country known as Poland. Possible workarounds while we get this sorted out include:

  • Connecting with SSL to the IP 64.62.141.42 (irc.dereferenced.org).
  • Waiting about 24 hours until we get a Tor enclave set up, at which point the address will be posted here.

If anyone has a clue-by-four we can borrow to get this sorted, please let us know. Thanks.

Update: This appears to be some Polish government-mandated block. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Donations

Running an IRC network doesn't come cheap. That's why we would like to ask you, our users, to help us reduce the monthly costs.

By donating you are showing us that you care for the network. Your donations will go to the monthly server bills and other costs that come with keeping StaticBox going.

So don't be shy and shows us that you really love your favorite irc network. Click the donate button in the upper menu.
